New Parent TLC (Talk, Link, Confirm): A Mental Health Services Act Innovation Project

First 5 Sonoma County and Mothers Care

New Parent TLC is a gatekeeper training curriculum specifically focused on early identification of parental depressive symptoms in new parents. The training will prepare targeted gatekeepers – childcare providers, coworkers, and cosmetology service providers – to know how to have meaningful discussions with new parents, look for symptoms, be comfortable talking about these symptoms, make referrals to appropriate supports and services, and follow up with any parent who has demonstrated symptoms of parental depression. The project will run through 2023.

In addition, to ensure that the training curriculum and approach is culturally responsive, particularly for the Latinx community and LGBTQ+ families, a cultural community advisory group will be convened, composed of individuals with lived experience and local experts in culturally responsive mental health approaches, including Humanidad, Raizes Collective, Positive Images and Life Works.

Hanna Institute Summit

April 5 – April 6, 2022 | 8 am – 4 pm PT

Jenni Silverstein will be a speaker at the Hanna Summit — a virtual conference on April 5 and 6 that will explore the root causes of community trauma and bring forward radical and courageous actions for change and healing. She will speak about Developmental Trauma and the impacts of community violence on young children.

The event is produced by the Hanna Institute, which is dedicated to improving the lives of youth through trauma-informed care.

Meet Our Trainers

Allison Murphy, MFT

Allison is a clinician, founder and Executive Director of Mothers Care. She is an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) Interface Master Trainer and her experience includes instructing at Sonoma State University, consulting, training, and presenting to state and local organizations on the topic of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

Jennifer Silverstein, LCSW

Jennifer is a California-endorsed Infant Family Mental Health Specialist. She has over 20 years of experience in fostering early childhood mental health and supporting families during the transition into parenthood. She is a frequent lecturer in Sonoma County and is actively involved in community efforts to promote maternal and early childhood mental health through public education and the strengthening of service systems.
